Admission Policy (Master’s Program)

Ideal Candidates

In the Master's Program, we seek candidates who possess mathematical skills, English skills and a mathematical way of thinking necessary for learning and research in the Intelligent and Mechanical Interaction Systems field, and who have the qualities to acquire research skills, specialized knowledge and an ethical view appropriate for the master’s degree. We also seek candidates who aim to become professional engineers or researchers in the Intelligent and Mechanical Interaction Systems field.

Selection and Admission Policy

Our basic policy is to broadly seek competent candidates regardless of whether they are on or off campus students or working individuals. When selecting new enrollees, we respond to a diverse range of candidates by implementing different types of selection processes including the internal admission examination (examination for recommended candidates), general admission examination, and special examination for working individuals. Additionally, the entrance examinations are conducted multiple times throughout the year by dividing up the number of candidates to be admitted. Regardless of the selection process, all the candidates must show proof of their English proficiency (by submitting either Official Score Certificate for TOEIC or Examinee Score Report for TOEFL at the time of application, and also taking an oral examination). Only candidates who apply for the selection process in August (general admission examination and special examination for working individuals) are also required to submit their academic transcript.

  • In the internal admission examination (recommended candidates; selection in July), successful candidates are selected for being high achievers, want to study our Master’s Program in Intelligent and Mechanical Interaction Systems as their first choice, and have outstanding abilities required for conducting research in the Intelligent and Mechanical Interaction Systems field.
  • In the first general admission examination (selection in August), successful candidates are selected by their advanced skills in basic fields such as mathematics and English, who have a clear reason for applying to our program, and excel at concreteness and ideas in research plans. In addition to these, in the second general admission examination (selection in February), evaluation of the graduation research is also taken into consideration.
  • In the special examination for working individuals (selection in August and February), previous research and social contributions of candidates are evaluated. We will positively accept highly motivated and capable working individuals (or applicants who have work experience) by making our admission decisions separately from those for the general admission examination.

Admission Policy (Doctoral Program)

Ideal Candidates

In the Doctoral Program, we seek candidates who possess mathematical skills, English skills and a mathematical way of thinking necessary for the development of cutting-edge research in the Intelligent and Mechanical Interaction Systems field. Our program strives for candidates qualified to acquire research skills, specialized knowledge and an ethical view appropriate for the doctoral degree. We also seek candidates aiming to contribute to the development of science and society as a researcher or highly-skilled professional in the Intelligent and Mechanical Interaction Systems field.

Selection and Admission Policy

We select successful candidates by implementing various selection processes such as the internal admission examination (selection for candidates enrolled to the University of Tsukuba who continue to study our degree program), general admission examination, and special examination for working individuals. Regardless of the selection process, the oral examination is mandatory for all the candidates.

  • In the internal admission examination, successful candidates are selected from those who are expected to complete their Master’s Program in Intelligent and Mechanical Interaction Systems (Master’s Program in Intelligent Interaction Technologies for entrance examination processes held before 2019). Candidates must have a high level of basic knowledge and research skills, and are expected to either be adopted as JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientist (DC1 or DC2) or to be enrolled in the Doctoral Early Completion Program.
  • In the general admission examination, successful candidates are selected depending on their basic knowledge and research skills. These applicants are expected to complete the Doctoral Program within the standard curriculum timeframe.
  • In the special examination for working individuals, successful candidates are selected depending on their basic knowledge, research abilities, achievements and work-related experience. In addition, applicants can request the conditions for completing their program as follows: program completion while working, program completion beyond the standard period (Register Extending System) or early program completion (Early Completion Program for Working Individuals).
